SSRS Dataset Execution Flow Parallel or Single Transaction

SSRS report driven by datasets, we create multiple datasets to fetch data from data sources to show them in the report.

So multiple datasets sql queries run in parallel or in sequence ?

By default datasets run in parallel, means all the dataset quires run in parallel.

If we want to run in sequencelly we need to check the check-box in the Data Source property

Use Single transaction when processing the queries.

Lets check the execution by creating a temporary table in one dataset and use that temporary table in second dataset.

By default execution is parallel, so before click  on checkbox  in the Data Source property (Use Single transaction when processing the queries.)  it will fail.

Once we check the checkbox  in the Data Source property (Use Single transaction when processing the queries.) It will run successfully.

This demo is done in my video , please look into my video to get the better idea of what happening with Data Source property (Use Single transaction when processing the queries.)

Thanks
Prasad

I have attempted to do this but my initial temp table query uses variables. It appears that this will not work in that case. The you tube comment has someone with the same issue. Can you confirm this or provide a workaround?

Hi Scott, Variables means you have used parameters in the initial dataset?

Yes, while it stopped temp tables from working global temp tables seem to be ok.
